Puentedeume

The town's most prominent medieval landmark outside the centre is the Castillo de Andrade, in the parish of Noguerosa. Built in the 14th century by Fernán Pérez de Andrade, known as "el Bueno," on land belonging to the monastery of Sobrado, it has held protected status as a Bien de Interés Cultural since 1994. In the parish of Breamo stands the Romanesque church of San Miguel de Breamo, the surviving remnant of a small Augustinian monastery, also dating from the 12th century.

Back in the town centre, the stone bridge over the Eume river is the oldest landmark. A written reference from 1162 mentions a wooden crossing, but the great stone version — 78 arches long, with two towers and a pilgrim hospital built between its spans — was ordered by Fernán Pérez de Andrade in the late 14th century. It was demolished and replaced between 1863 and 1873; the current bridge has 15 arches. The stone bear and wild boar that once stood on the old bridge as symbols of the Andrade family are now in the cloister of the Convent of San Agustín.

That convent was founded in 1538 by Fernando de Andrade and housed Augustinian monks until their expulsion in 1835. It now serves as the Casa de la Cultura. The Town Hall façade, bearing the coat of arms of the Counts of Lemos, and its clock tower were carefully dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone after the original building was demolished in 1975. Nearby, a 16th-century house donated in 1580 to found a Latin Studies school now holds the municipal library. The fish market loggias dating from 1763, where sailors once salted fish and stored tackle, are partly used today as a pilgrim hostel.
