History of Els Prats de Rei
Excavations underway since 2013 have uncovered walls, a moat, and Greek ceramics from an Iberian settlement beneath the town. Archaeologist Natalia Salazar identifies the site as Sikarra, and an earlier study from 1998 based on coins found in the 1972–1975 campaign proposes the name Iltirkesken instead. Roman remains have also been found here, and a Roman gravestone records what may be the earliest mention of "Municipium Sigarrensis," confirming the town's role as the administrative capital of the Segarra comarca under Roman rule.

The nearby hamlet of La Manresana preserves a cylindrical tower from an old castle, now considered a fine example of Romanesque architecture. Els Prats de Rei itself was once a fully walled town, and its streets lead down to a partly arcaded main square. Around it stand notable buildings including the town hall, which features windows and details in the civic Gothic style.
The parish church of Santa María is Baroque and was built between 1685 and 1713.
