History of Rupit
The church of San Juan de Fábregas and a castle are both recorded as far back as 968, and the village of Rupit grew up around them, populated by noble families. The local church broke away from San Juan de Fábregas in 1878, and in 1959 the municipality officially took the name Rupit. In 1977, the neighbouring municipalities of Rupit and Pruit were merged into one.
Heritage & Monuments
Rupit and its surroundings hold four Romanesque churches: San Juan de Fábregas, San Lorenzo Dosmunts, San Andrés de Pruit, and San Miguel de Rupit. The village centre itself preserves houses of Romanesque and medieval origin, with stone-paved streets. Nearby, though technically within the neighbouring municipality of Susqueda, stands the Santuario del Far.
