History of Biniaraix
Biniaraix is a hamlet on the island of Mallorca, administratively part of the municipality of Sóller, though a section of the village falls within the neighbouring municipality of Fornalutx. It has around 455 inhabitants. The village is best known as the starting point for the Barranc de Biniaraix walk, one of Mallorca's most popular hiking routes.
That route also forms part of the longer Ruta de Pedra en Sec, a dry-stone trail crossing the island's mountains.
Heritage & Monuments
The old village centre and its church together hold the status of Bé d'Interès Cultural, the highest heritage protection in the Balearic Islands. The church dates from the late 16th century and has a bell tower finished in white tiles. Two manor houses, Cas Don and Can Ribera, are also worth noting, along with the old public washing basins.
The Barranc de Biniaraix walk, which begins in the village, can be extended to the summits of Puig de l'Ofre or Els Cornadors.
