History of Santa Coloma de Cervelló
An Iberian settlement once stood within the town's boundaries, and the site appears in documents from the mid-medieval period. The medieval village grew up around the parish church of Santa Coloma, with most of the farmhouses — the masies — built from the 16th century onward. In 1323 the place was recorded as Santa Coloma de Montpedrós, named after the highest point in the municipality; its later name reflects its long belonging to the barony of Cervelló.
